RSA backs Three Peaks winner

The RSA logo was first across the finish line in this year's gruelling Three Peaks Yacht Race, one of the greatest adventure challenges in British sport which combines sailing, running and cycling.

The company logo was on the boat, JourneyMaker5, which took overall victory in the 30th year of the race.

Immediately after their triumph in Scotland, Louise Makin, team leader and CEO of BTG, reported back to Nick Stephens at RSA: "Our runners kept in the lead on the last mountain which meant that we won overall. It was a very exciting race with the lead changing frequently and very fast downwind conditions."

The Three Peaks teams comprise three sailors and two runners and their aim is to sail from Barmouth on the Welsh coast to Fort William in Scotland, via Caernarfon and Whitehaven, climbing to the summits of Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis on the way.

The athletes cycle from Whitehaven into Ennerdale and run up and down Scafell Pike from there.

In total this is 389 miles of difficult coastal sailing, 18 miles of cycling and 72 miles of running, with 14,000 feet of ascent to reach the highest points in Wales, England and Scotland. The race attracts some of the world's best sailors and runners.

Nick Stephens, RSA chief executive, said: "It's great to have backed the winning team, particularly as they were raising money for the Bendrigg Trust, a charity that gives disabled and disadvantaged young people an opportunity for challenge and adventure."
