RSA wins export award for expansion into Singapore

Life science recruitment specialists, RSA, have won a prestigious Government export award for launching a successful new operation in Singapore.

The UK Trade and Investment Passport to Export Award was presented by Lord Digby Jones, minister for trade and investment, which he said recognised RSA's achievements in competing in the global marketplace.

Nick Stephens, RSA chief executive said: "Singapore is the ideal place to launch our expansion into the Asia Pacific region and both the UKTI and the Singapore government have been very helpful. In all, it took us just three months from the decision to open in Singapore to the establishment of our regional headquarters."

Singapore is keen to become the regional hub for life sciences and two figures this month show the scale of development in the region. The Government has announced it has set aside S$1.55 billion to support translational and clinical research up to 2010, and GSK has opened a US$ 82 million pilot plant for drug discovery, clinical research and manufacturing.

Nick Stephens said: "It's an exciting time to be working in Singapore. We estimate that over the next five years Singapore will need around 10,000 new people to support its life science industries. We are working with companies who are expanding into the region by helping them access the best available life science professionals from the UK, Europe and the US, as well as developing a pipeline of younger, local talent."
