RSA boat battles 25 knots

After the success of the RSA-sponsored boat JourneyMaker 5, skippered by Chris Jones in the Three Peaks race - one of the toughest of its kind - this latest challenge should have been a breeze. Except the breeze was blowing at 17 knots, gusting to 25.

They were perfect conditions for experienced sailors, but many taking part in the event were complete beginners.

RSA's Susan Macdonald and Evy Young rose to the challenge, surviving the early squalls and heavy downpours. The JourneyMaker 5 crew peaked early in the day, finishing third in the practice race and fifth overall on handicap.

Susan said: "It was a great day's racing. The boat and our team performed well and we're determined to improve on this position next year."

This was the first Health 4 Health event, designed to bring together people working in health–related disciplines, along with families and friends, to raise money for healthcare charities. The day raised £3,000 and RSA's donation went to Hertfordshire Action on Disability.

RSA have been integral in the set-up, support and promotion of Health 4 Health, providing marketing expertise in addition to funding.

Planning for next year's event to be held at Royal Lymington on July 3 and 4 is already underway. This will include a triathlon, individual running, cycling and swimming events, and sailing.
