Our client:

The Clinigen Group is a specialty pharmaceuticals and services business with offices in the UK, US and Japan, serving more than 50 markets globally with an extensive customer base of pharmaceutical companies, biotechnology companies and contract research organisations. With the acquisition of Idis and the targeted company growth in the Specialty Pharmaceuticals division, Clinigen needed to appoint a Chief Medical Officer.

The challenge:

Clinigen had recently undergone rapid growth through multiple acquisitions. This in turn gave the company the rights to a large number of products and generated a global footprint. Clinigen required a Chief Medical Officer who could rationalise and organise all products, across all locations and markets, into one coherent product portfolio. The candidate needed to be able to properly align regulatory, life extension and drug safety strategies, and create a clinical development strategy which would allow the company to bring products in development to their first marketing licence.

The Candidate needed to offer high-level experience in both senior medical marketing and clinical development, have worked at a multinational level, and demonstrate the ability to roll up their sleeves and deliver change in an environment where budgets were yet to be established.

How our approach made a difference:

Following discussions with Clinigen, we decided to prioritise candidates who had left full time medicine and commercial roles and moved into consulting. Our 20+ years’ experience in delivering interim CMOs allowed us to leverage our network and gain insights into who would have an appetite to transition back into full-time work following a period as a part-time consultant.

Our extensive experience and unique approach to psychometric profiling supported us in finding a candidate who was both suited to the creative components of the role and effective in Clinigen’s unique corporate structure.
